Caring Like Family Introduce
Caring Like Family, Inc., located in the beautiful seaside community of Marina Del Rey, is a Medicare-certified agency that provides essential health and comfort services to individuals in the West Los Angeles area of California. The agency is structured to address two critical areas of care: Home Health Care Services and Hospice Care. This dual focus allows the organization to serve clients who are seeking recovery and health maintenance at home, as well as those who require compassionate, specialized support during the end stages of life.
The core philosophy of their hospice division centers on comfort and quality of life, often summarized by the foundational principle: 'You matter because you are you, and you matter to the end of your life.' Their goal is to ensure patients remain as comfortable and pain-free as possible, allowing them to live fully until the end. This care is provided wherever the patient calls home—be it a private residence, an assisted living facility, or a long-term care facility. As a provider focused on non-curative care in the final stage of life, Caring Like Family Hospice is a resource for patients whose medical conditions are no longer responding to aggressive treatment or who choose to focus on palliative support.
However, potential users seeking their services should exercise caution and conduct thorough independent research. While the organization is officially licensed and offers vital services, severe and public complaints regarding business practices have been raised by former contractors and clients. These issues, including allegations of non-payment to personnel and a lack of compassionate follow-up after a client's death, suggest a significant disconnect between the advertised philosophy of 'Caring Like Family' and the actual operational execution and professional conduct reported by some parties. Prospective clients in California are strongly advised to verify all operational details, including staffing and contractual agreements, before engaging their services.

Services Offered
As a licensed Home Health Agency and Hospice provider, Caring Like Family offers a range of services designed to provide medical, emotional, and practical support in the home environment. These services are Medicare-certified, meaning they adhere to federal quality standards for home care and hospice programs.
The services provided, particularly through the hospice program which is the primary focus of the available public data, typically include:
- Skilled Nursing Services: Provided by Registered Nurses (RNs) who manage pain, control symptoms, and provide direct patient care.
- Medical Social Services: Assistance with emotional concerns, counseling, and help in finding community resources related to the patient’s illness.
- Physician Services: Medical oversight of the patient's care plan.
- Counseling Services: Support for the patient and family, often including spiritual and bereavement counseling.
- Home Health Aides / Homemaker Services: Assistance with personal care activities such as bathing, dressing, and grooming, as well as light housekeeping and meal preparation.
- Physical and Occupational Therapy: Services to help patients maintain mobility, independence, and perform daily activities, although the provision of these specific services has been called into question by contractor complaints.
- Speech Pathology: Assistance with problems related to speech, language, and swallowing.
- Medical Supplies and Equipment: Provision of necessary medical supplies related to the patient’s terminal illness.
- Volunteer Services: In-home support, including companionship, life review, relief care for family, light household chores, and errand running.
- Short-Term Inpatient Services: The provision of inpatient care for pain and symptom management that cannot be managed at home, though the facility itself is noted as not having an inpatient facility.
Features / Highlights
Based on its official capacity and stated mission, Caring Like Family has several features intended to benefit California residents seeking end-of-life and home health support:
- Medicare Certified: As a Medicare-certified hospice, the agency meets specific federal health and safety standards, providing assurance of a defined level of quality and compliance.
- Joint Commission Accreditation: Public records indicate the hospice division is accredited by The Joint Commission, an independent non-profit organization that certifies healthcare organizations based on rigorous performance standards.
- Focus on Palliative Philosophy: The agency explicitly adopts a philosophy centered on comfort care rather than curative care, providing a clear service mandate for patients and families facing a terminal prognosis.
- Broad Service Area: The agency is based in Marina Del Rey but cares for patients throughout the Westside of Los Angeles County.
- Volunteer Integration: The hospice actively seeks and incorporates volunteers to provide companionship, relief care, and specialized support from musicians and certified pet therapy providers, enhancing the patient's quality of life.
What is Worth Choosing
When navigating the sensitive and critical decision of selecting home health or hospice care in the competitive Los Angeles market, the choice of Caring Like Family must be approached with a full understanding of the public record. On one hand, the agency offers a professional, Medicare-certified, and Joint Commission-accredited service for both Home Health and Hospice care—credentials that are vital for ensuring quality and coverage for California families. The stated focus on palliative care and comfort, supported by an interdisciplinary team, aligns with the best practices for end-of-life care.
However, the extreme negative reviews from both former contracted staff and a grieving client are a significant red flag that cannot be overlooked by prospective users. Allegations of failing to pay employees, leading to a disruption of necessary patient therapy sessions, and a profound lack of post-mortem outreach to a bereaved family suggest serious deficiencies in administrative integrity and compassionate communication. The claim that the company stopped providing necessary therapy without informing patients directly raises ethical concerns about patient welfare and continuity of care.
Therefore, while the agency is structurally equipped and certified to provide necessary services, potential users in California are strongly urged to exercise maximum due diligence. Before committing to Caring Like Family, it is essential to request and scrutinize references from other families, verify the current licensing status, and ask direct questions about staffing stability, billing practices, and the company's established protocol for post-loss support to ensure the services received truly reflect the 'Caring Like Family' name and meet the high expectations for care in the West Los Angeles community.

Caring Like Family Reviews
THEY DO NOT PAY THEIR EMPLOYEESFRAUD OF A COMPANYFILING A LAW SUITI was recently hired by Caring Like Family as a contract PT. I have completed over 45 PT sessions for them without any payment. This company owes me thousands of dollars. Upon hiring, I was told by Erick Yela (Director of Operations) that I would receive payment for my services every two weeks, which was a complete lie. When weeks had gone by, I asked him when I would be paid, he said in a few days. This lie was told to me several times. He has been avoiding my phone calls for several weeks now when I try to follow up with him. Other employees are also in on the lie.Lilly Gonzales as well as Jack Trickett are both aware of the situation and claim that they will escalate this issue to the owner, Debora Gregory, but will not give me a contact number to reach out to her. I offered to come pick up a check for the money I am owed, and was told that they don't have money to pay me until Medicare reimburses them.I had to stop seeing patients because I cannot afford to pay for my family expenses while working for them (for free). When I told Erick that I could not continue treatments, he stated that the agency would reach out to let the patients know about my being unable to continue treatments (another lie). In the following days, patients were calling me upset that they were not getting their necessary therapy and that no one had contacted them from the agency. Not only did the agency lie to me, but it also ruined my reputation with patients. This really infuriated me, as I take pride in my patient care.
September 22 · Ari SaidianWhile the care received was as expected, the lack of compassion after our loss is inexcusable!! The contracted LVN was there in the end, but no one from Caring Like Family has reached out. Seems the verbal expression of personal connection was a farce. They didn’t even notify their contracted social support team; I know because the counselor called as a check in, but was shocked to hear that my mother had died four days prior.
