Hoag at Home Introduce
For residents across Orange County, California, the name 'Hoag' is synonymous with high-quality, trusted medical care. Hoag at Home extends that renowned excellence directly into the comfort and privacy of your residence. While listed as a Medical Clinic and Family Practice Physician office, Hoag at Home represents a broad umbrella of essential services dedicated to patients who are recuperating, managing a chronic illness, or navigating end-of-life care within their own community setting.
Hoag at Home is a vital component of the Hoag Health Care System, designed to bring the continuum of care full circle for patients following a hospital stay, surgery, or those needing long-term condition management. Their services encompass a certified Home Health Agency and Hospice Care, ensuring that whether a patient requires skilled nursing, rehabilitative therapies, or compassionate end-of-life support, they can receive it without the stress of travel. This is especially valuable for homebound individuals throughout the Orange County area, providing access to top-tier healthcare professionals, including board-certified Family Practice Physicians, Physical Therapists, and Specialty Nurses.
The feedback for Hoag at Home’s outpatient hospice services highlights the dedication of the clinical teams. One reviewer expressed immense gratitude for the "best support" during a difficult time, emphasizing the super kind, caring, and supportive nature of the staff. Specific praise was directed at their nurse, Brian, for being "always responsive, extremely accommodating, and went above and beyond" for both the patient’s comfort and the family’s support. A bath aid named Maria was also noted for her gentle care and attention. This dedication to compassionate, patient-centered care is the hallmark of the best home-based medical services. However, it is important for prospective users to note that the Hoag system is large, and experiences can vary; one family reported a difficult and "transactional" experience with communication issues regarding social work and delayed equipment, emphasizing the critical role of clear communication and consistent compassion in all aspects of care.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Hoag outpatient hospice provided us with the best support I could ever ask for during the extreme difficult time when my mom was dying. Everyone we met was super kind, caring, and supportive. Our nurse Brian, who visited us daily, was always responsive, extremely accommodating, and went above and beyond to make sure not only my mom was as comfortable as she could be but we as the family were supported. Maria was easily the most gentle bath aid we’ve worked with, always taking time and care when giving my mom a bed bath. Dr. Haga, who I met once, struck me as exceptionally warm and patient. My mom has been in hospice three times, each time a different provider. Hoag outpatient hospice was by far the best in every way. This is in stark contrast with the Hoag inpatient hospice at the Irvine hospital, whose doctor - Dr Shivani B. Martin -was probably the most callous, disingenuous, and unprofessional doctor I have ever interacted with. She managed to make an extremely painful situation worse, telling us she was pulling out the NG tube that was sustaining my mom and we didn’t have a choice. In my opinion, she should never be a doctor, leaving alone a hospice doctor.
June 08 · Veroncia ChenWorst experience! Hoag hospice failed terribly. Social worker never called. We called 3 X to get a response. Our mom passed and nobody called with condolences. The nurse had her OWN schedule, and we were promised a completely different experience. A ridiculous “ transactional experience”! Compassion and empathy should be the backbone of hospice. The loss of our mom was the most painful experience of our lives. It was so disappointing to add more stress. Equipment wasn’t called either, 2 days later.Nurse took 2 hours to come and pronounce her dead. Heartbreaking. She came in complaining about her busy schedule! Nobody should have this experience! Hoag gets a bad name from this group.
July 05 · Teri McAvineyWe keep thinking it would be easier to transition to Hoag Home Health when being discharged from Hoag Hospital, but it keeps getting more and more unorganized. RN was great, but she didn’t come out until 4 days after we were told someone was going to come by. I called repeatedly to finally get someone to call back and put my dad on the schedule. Then the physical therapist shows up unannounced (didn’t even call) bc he couldn’t fit us in his schedule for another day. Seems like we get same day notice and it’s ridiculous to have to work around their schedule last second.
May 29 · Diana PhamHoag at home (Hoag hospice service) is not nearly where they should be to launch such a program. I just lost my mom earlier this year, and briefly used Hoag. My sister almost immediately didn’t like their lack of staff and experience. We changed to Compassionate Care (wonderful). Now my dad is on hospice and his wife went with Hoag Home Health (Hoag at Home). I DO NOT recommend to anyone. They offer zero comfort and support for the family. They are rushed with each visit. 10-15 minutes. Late on ordering medication refills. Then meds coming as late as 9pm. A few times the nurse forgot to order them , then ‘expedited’ it. The family should not have to worry AT ALL, that their dying loved one has the proper medicine to stay comfortable. Then the nurse and bath aids come together, defeating the purpose. We needed more help, we expressed this, and Hoag being a huge machine, is more worried about pleasing MediCare, than helping their patients and families. We begged for more frequent visits, but they only serve MediCare and told us no. They offered NO advice on tips and tricks to keep my dad more comfortable or to help us with caring for him. Since I had just gone through this with my mom, I thankfully had learned things from the caring staff at Compassionate Care. The family is just left to find out the hard way on their own with Hoag. Their staff has ZERO experience with hospice. We even had a nurse call off sick on a day she was scheduled to see us, and her shift wasn’t covered and NO ONE even called us to say nobody would come. Like they had no idea she was scheduled to see us. We waited around all day for her. When we called the manager she was too prideful to feel bad or sorry for the issue. They have not made us feel more comfortable with my dads care at this time of his life, nor have they been of any relief for us.You can definitely tell they pulled existing staff to fill the new hospice positions instead of hiring people with hospice experience. Although their hospital is great,I DO NOT recommend Hoag at Home (hospice) care to anyone. They are simply not equipped staff wise or with the understanding, to operate as a true hospice care for what patients and their families need.I hope I’ve covered everything I’ve wanted to write about, this has been such a stressful time and Hoag has only added to the stress.Go with a private company if you can guys. God bless you and your families.
January 24 · Tyler YouderianMy family member has been a patient with Hoag at Home Hospice Care for a year now. All of the staff have been outstanding and extremely helpful in this difficult time. Our Nurse Tiffany has been exceptionally supportive and has gone above and beyond to accommodate any issues that arise. The amount she cares and her consistent attentiveness and promptness to our changing needs is impressive. Her reliability and kindness has made a world of difference in all of our lives. We will always be thankful to her!!
